Cronos FID raises Cyprus gas-to-LNG project pressure

TotalEnergies (50%) and Eni (50%, operator) announced on 28 July 2026 the Final Investment Decision for the Cronos gas field in Cyprus offshore Block 6, Cyprus’s first gas development, with production start-up expected in 2028.

The plan covers four subsea wells about 185 km southwest of Cyprus, a subsea pipeline into Egyptian waters using Zohr-area facilities, and liquefaction at Damietta LNG for export to Europe at a plateau near 500 Mcf/d (about 2.8 Mtpa LNG), with TotalEnergies marketing 50% of the LNG.

Primary map: deepwater subsea trees and umbilicals for the four Cronos wells, subsea export pipeline and tie-in hardware toward Egypt, and Damietta LNG train debottlenecking and cryogenic spares supporting the 2.8 Mtpa plateau.

Prioritize Eni Block 6 project procurement and TotalEnergies LNG marketing engineering for Cronos, plus Damietta LNG terminal operations desks in Egypt freezing 2027–2028 tie-in packages.

Qualify subsea and cryogenic vendor data against the Cronos FID scope and Damietta liquefaction interfaces before 2027 package freezes; failure to meet Eni/TotalEnergies approved-manufacturer lists risks exclusion from the four-well and pipeline lots. Industry estimate: deepwater tree and umbilical lead times still run 18–24 months.
